Salima Mukansanga has retired from being a professional referee after over 12 years in the career, B&B Kigali has learnt.

"I personally retired from refereeing, and I haven't the foggiest idea what others are saying," she told B&B Kigali.

It has been reported that Mukansanga is set to become a VAR official as she has been in France in preparation for her forthcoming role.

The 36-year-old, who has been officiating for FIFA since 2012, is among the most prolific Rwandan referees, having achieved remarkable feats throughout her career.

She served as the fourth referee at the 2022 Men’s World Cup in Qatar and also took charge at the 2019 Women’s World Cup in France, the 2020 Summer Olympics in Tokyo, Japan, and the 2022 Africa Cup of Nations in Cameroon.
